Do you want to rearrange the icons on your Apple iPhone home screen? It's not a hard process, but can differ depending on what iPhone you have.Â
This feature guides you through how to delete apps on your iPhone, how to move the apps around the screen and how to create a folder of apps.
How to delete apps on your iPhone or iPod touch
Rearranging an app or deleting an app from your iPhone home screen simply requires a long press on the respective app.
This results in a menu appearing on your screen where you can select the "Edit Home Screen" option, or "Remove App". If you choose "Remove App", you'll need to confirm "Remove from Home Screen" or "Delete App". The app will remain in the App Library (accessed by swiping all the way across right to left from your Home Screen) if you choose "Remove from Home Screen", but it won't appear on your Home Screen anymore.
If you select "Edit Home Screen", all the apps on your home screen will wobble (Apple says they "jiggle"), or you can continue holding and they will wobble without you pressing anything. An '-' will then appear in the top left corner of those you can delete, enabling you to uninstall them.Â
Moving iPhone apps around the screen
When the apps are jiggling, you can also drag apps around the screen, to another screen, or to the dock at the bottom of the screen which can house up to four of your most-used apps.Â
Just hold any app and drag it to where you want. To move it to another screen, drag it to the edge of the current screen and then after a short delay, it'll move onto the second screen. You can see how many screens you have by the number of dots above the dock at the bottom of the screen.Â
TIP: If you are running iOS 14 or later and you tap on the dots at the bottom of the home screen when your apps are wobbling, you can see your home pages and choose to hide them. The apps will still be available to access from your App Library but you don't have to have them as a homepage.
Creating a folder of iPhone apps
To create a folder of apps, drag one app on top of another. You can have lots of apps in each folder. To rename it, tap the name at the top of the folder. To delete a folder, drag all the apps out of it.Â
Reset your iPhone home screen
Go to Settings > General > Reset > Home screen layout to take things back to basics. Your iPhone's default apps will appear on the first screen, with other apps in alphabetical order after that.Â
